This past Sunday I was enjoying a rare evening with my wife and son.  She had just returned from a 5 day business trip and was leaving the next morning for another one.  We were having dinner together, when I went into the kitchen and knocked over a glass bottle of hot sauce.  The bottle broke but did not shatter.  I spent the next 20 minutes or so cleaning while our dinner got cold.  After finishing up and having a laugh, I was doing some laundry in the basement while the two of them played in the living room.  Walking up the stairs I felt a slight pinch in my foot.  That pinch turned out to be a shard of glass a little bigger than a quarter.  After 1 hour of trying to get the blood to stop flowing I finally decided to head over to the emergency room a short ways away.  Sure enough, I was able to get stitches and was sent home a short while later in pain and a little embarrassed.  I arrived to find out that my wife had found two more rather large shards of glass on the kitchen floor.
I must say that while this has been inconvenient, the fact that it happened may be for the best.  Had I not stepped on the piece of glass it could have been far worse.  My infant son or my dog could have possible stepped on or eaten the glass.  Ill take a sore foot over that situation any day.

Well, my wife Gabrielle has left on a business trip.  Her job is an excellent one that she enjoys greatly.  The only major downside to this position of hers is that she does have to travel from time to time.  In fact from today , November 11, she will be gone until November 21 with the exception of this weekend when she returns for an all too brief stay.  I love that her career is one that she enjoys, and also affords us the ability to allow me to be a stay at home dad/full time 12 credit per semester students at Molloy College. However times like these are very stressful.  Obviously, first and foremos,t I miss the person who I chose to spend the rest of my life living with, but I also have to admit that taking care of Dean, going to class, doing school work, and then coming home to relieve the babysitter and take care of Dean is very stressful.  I know that she is jealous and would rather be here, but 10 days of nearly uninterrupted child care, coupled with school, and other responsibilities around the house is very stressful.  There is no down time to do the things I want to do.  There is barely enough time to do the things I need too do.  I'm going to need this winter break around the Holidays more than I ever though possible.

Invitro fertilization is a complicated procedure.
In Vitro is a procedure in which the woman trying to achieve pregnancy takes many hormones such as Follistam, and Estrogen.  This is to stimulate the growth of follicles in her ovaries so those follicles produce eggs or ovum.  The woman is then put under anesthesia to retrieve the eggs so that he may be fertilized and later on placed back in her to hopefully develop in to a fetus and eventually a child.
After generating a large number of eggs via the hormones, a woman then  is placed under anesthesia.  The eggs are harvested, and mixed with sperm.  These eggs will become blastocysts, and can be reinserted or stored in a cryogenic freeze.  After this physically demanding process, the woman then waits 1o days to see if a viable pregnancy was achiever and will continue on a nightly hormone injection schedule until cleared by her doctor to maintain as a normal pregnancy.

My son Dean just turned 9 months the other day.  Instead of being able to enjoy the day though, I spent it taking care of him because he was extremely sick.  The little guy has come down with a virus that has resulted in him having a vicious cough,a runny nose, and clogged ears.  I hate being sick myself, but witnessing his discomfort has been the worst thing I could imagine.  I would trade places with him this instant if it meant that he was well.  He is such a happy, and active baby normally, however he has been very lethargic and cantakerous these past few days.  I always have sympathy for those who are sick, but seeing my son be waylaid by this virus is devastating.  I have so much to do for my graduate school, and to take care of my house, but I cannot seem to bring myself to do anything than try my best to comfort him.  I sure do hope that this circumstance I find myself in is resolved qucikly, not for my own peace of mind, but for my son's benifit.

I just wrapped up my last day of phase 2 student teacher observation.  My final day was one that brought be a wide range of emotions.  I was sad, to not be able to see the teachers and students that I have gotten to know, relieved to be finished with a huge part of my graduate school process, and anxious to know how I did on my final observation.  This anxiousness was most strongly felt when at 5 minutes prior to my lesson I recieved an urgent phone call.  My observing professor was stuck in traffic due to a car accident.  She couldn't get off the highway and was going to miss our appointed time.
However my cooperating teacher was quick thinking and araged to have a different first grade ESL class come later  in the day and I was able to teach the lesson I had prepared for.  It went great, and I have accomplished another huge milestone in my graduate degree program by completing my student teaching phase 2 at Summit Lane Elementary school.  All good things come to those who wait I guess.

Well it is official.  The football season, at least for me as a sports fan is over.  I am a New York Giants fan, and have been for as long as I can remember.  Up until a few years ago my family has had season tickets since 1962.  It was very hard to stop using the seats but the cost had become prohibitive.  Based upon what I have seen this season though I haven't missed much.  The Giants are one of the most disappointing teams in all of professional football.
My father first purchased the seats and then allowed me to use them when he had moved out of the tri-state area.  We have been fortunate enough to witness plenty of great teams as well as being subjected to some pretty lousy teams.  This team may be the most difficult to watch as they have so much talent and yet have not even managed a win.  Is it February yet?  I personally cannot wait for the season to be over for all football teams as it has become impossible to watch this franchise fail as much as they have over the past few weeks.

My son Dean just turned eight months today.  It is incredible how fast the time has gone.  When he came home with my wife and I, he weighed in at 6 pounds and only 18 inches and is now 19pounds and 10 ounces as well as being 28 inches long.  To watch how much he has changed physically, is amazing, but o also recognize the developments into his own person emotionally and personality wise is more amazing.

Dean is a fearless daredevil, who is filled with wonder and curiosity.  He has begun to crawl, which while having created problems such as watching him, has also been a delight to witness.  Everything around him is new and enchanting, and to see his joy in something as simple as a blinking light is so amazing.  He is scared of nothing and interested in everything, a quality that I wish I could once again instill in myself.

Being a first time father has been every bit the experience I was foretold about, while also very different as all parents and children are different.  I have similar but also very different experiences with my son, when compared to other parents.  I wouldn't trade them for the world.
